My Top Ten 80s films!

Hello again, It has been pretty cool to see that the numbers are rising on this website, but what is really cool is that people seem to be reading these blogs! So thank you!

So yesterday I'm at work and I make a joke about telling someone never to come in to work on Tuesdays... I then actually used the term " I'm gonna get all Biff on her." My co worker is a few years younger than I am and her face looked both confused and empathetic as I tried to explain the joke, which for those fans of 80's cinema know, was a reference to Back to the Future. Anyway, she of course had no idea what I was talking about, but smiled and laughed to make the "old 34 year old guy" feel better. Anyway, this got me thinking if this woman of say 26 or 27 hasn't seen Back to the Future what other classic 80's films has she not seen? Now, since I'm somewhat of  psycho when it comes to things like this I started making a mental list of my favorite films of the 80's and came up w/ a top ten.( I actually do this quite a bit and it is always changing.) Anyway. here it is... This list is not in any order because that just isn't fair!

1.) Goonies : Yeah, I know big surprise... If you want to know some of my reasoning for this one read my Blog from a few weeks back where I ramble on and on about how there making Goonies 2  and why the first one is so special and Blah, Blah, Blah!
2.) The Empire Strikes Back: I am only going to include one of the Star Wars films from the 80's,simply because I think one is only slightly better than the other. Reason 1.) Training w/ Yoda... Reason 2.) "No, I am your father." Reason 3.) Leia: I love you. Han: I know. There are many other reasons for my including this film, but these 3 reasons need no explanation!
3.) The Breakfast Club: Basically, this movie is incredible. It is written to perfection by the man who in many ways set the tone for the 80's film, especially for teens, John Hughes.I feel like this movie is timeless and a must watch film for any high school student or anyone who felt the alienation of high school or anywhere for that matter! Nuff Said.
4.) The Karate Kid: This movie is a special film for me because it was a movie that my brother and I would watch over and over again w/ my mom or our Betamax player... Yeah, we did have a Betamax and it was far superior to the VCR, but way too expensive... the only reason we had one was because my dad got a discount through the electronics store he managed! Anyway, I love this film for one simple reason... Everyone needs a good friend that you can count on to have your back! Oh and the sound track is super bad ass too!
5.) Back to the Future: Another film my brother and I would watch w/ my mom all the time! One of the Ultimate family films and extremely smart and well written! It's funny, it's "heavy," and it will tug at the heart strings. There is nothing not to love about this film!
6.) Raiders of the Lost Ark: This is the greatest action adventure film ever made! Harrison Ford is at his best playing the iconic Henry Jones Jr, and Karen Allen is the best of the Jones ladies! So many films have tried to capture what Raiders does and just haven't been able to do it! It's a perfect film!
7.) Predator: I love this film! It is one of Stan Winston's best monsters and one of Arnold's best and probably most underrated roles. This film is the Jaws of the 80's, super suspenseful, brutal and of course the fear of the unknown! The sound track is awesome too! I also, like how the cast is so small and how all this stuff just happens to them... Dutch's worst fears are realized as he watches his men get picked off one at a time. Great film!
8.) E.T. the Extra Terrestrial: If I included the most bad ass Monster Alien of the 80's I have to include the sweetest and kindest. I remember rewatching ET a lot as a kid, and always crying in certain parts. It was the Goonies w/ an Alien and I love it. The movie is all of about Heart right down to the glowing one ET has beating in his chest.
9.) The Terminator: Time Traveling Cyborg... Nuff Said.
10.) Batman: Okay, say what you want... The film is a bit dated by today's standards, but I saw this movie like 5 times in the theatre when I was a kid.And I watched it again not that long ago and I think it holds up fine... I still love Jack and Keaton is great! In Fact, Not even Bale has done it better than Keaton who was both broody and charming and he looked and sounded bad ass in the Batsuit. He didn't turn into a monster w/ uncontrolled rage against criminals he was Batman! And when he said it you believed it.

So that's the list I came up w/... Like a said this list changes all the time for me and there and many other films I could have included, but I only have 10 spots and in the end all of these films have played major roles in my life and art! And that's sort of what this blog is about! If you have thoughts or any films you want to mention or your own top ten... Please share it! I love reading other peoples feelings about movies!
