It happens to be my brothers Birthday this week and I decided to do a quick top five in his honor. We are working on getting our podcast off the ground, which is going to be called The Super Five. (Kevin's idea) We will be dealing w/ all things pop culture, but will be doing top five lists as part of or shows format. Hence why this weeks blog is a top five!
1.) Records in bed : When Kevin and I were kids I had a lot of trouble sleeping... So we had these Super hero stories from Power Records that we would listen to every night. We had a small house so Kevin and I shared a room and had bunk beds. Anyway, as we would lay in our room and listen to records Kevin and I would some times talk about stuff for a bit, which always ended in Kevin falling asleep very quickly. I, on the other hand, laid wide awake listening to Superman and the killer bees, Captain America and Baron Zemo, Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four. I am the older Brother and when we were kids I was kind of a jerk to Kevin sometimes... So when the record ended I would always wake Kevin up to turn the it over to the other side. He was on the bottom bunk so my thinking was that I would wake him up anyway if I got down to turn it over and he was right there. Kevin was never very happy that I woke him up, but for some reason he always got right up and flipped it over. Sure he was probably just didn't want to listen to me saying "Kevin... Kevin... Kevin... Hey Kevin! Turn the record over... Kevin!" He probably thought I would beat him up or something? We were brothers and we fought sometimes. Over time I have realized Kevin is just a good dude with a lot of patience and compassion for people. Most likely he just knew I had trouble sleeping and was helping me out.
2.) Back to the Future : I have written about this before, but I love to think about this one. Basically, We were on vacation in Florida and we had a pool right outside our door. Every day we got to swim and everyday one of us would look at the other and say...
Kevin: We have to go back...
Matthew : Back to where?
Kevin : Back... TO THE FUTURE!!!
Then we'd both run as fast as we could and jump in the water! We would do this for what seemed like hours and it never got old!
3.) Staying up late : Kevin and I have both always be night owls for the most. When we got older we would stay up and watch movies, listen to music, play Sonic the Hedge Hog and talk about life. By the time we got to high school Kevin and I were good friends. So at night we would always have a good time just hanging out together... I think that's something we still do when we get the chance... something I grateful for!
4.) Max and Erma's : When Kevin I were in High School we both ended up busing table at Max and Erma's. I remember loving that job! We cleared tables and made tips from the servers. But what I loved was working w/ my brother. He were the fasted bussers there and we worked hard and had a good time. He and I have always worked well together and it was pretty cool working w/ him and going from bussers to servers. Kevin and I would finish our shift and then split a big plate of cheese fries!(I won't go in to when he ate cheese fries and then saw Xmen... Kevin knows what happened... it was foggy in that theater) And they always tasted so good! I think is was because we had worked hard and because we were hanging out.
5.) The apartment : Kevin and I had a place together years back, and he was the best roommate I ever had. I am sure the feeling isn't mutual as I am not as orderly as my brother. He and I know each other pretty well and accept each others faults. (which I have many) Anyway, we stayed together maybe 3 or 4 years and I just remember he was super easy to live with. Some nights we would talk each others ear off and other nights we'd be in separate parts of the place... but we always had each other to talk things out w/. Just like when we were growing up together... we always had each others back.
So happy birthday Kevin! No bull shit when I say you are the greatest dude I know. Looking forward to making new memories and having new adventures! We will save the origin of the Super Five for the Podcast!
