Lost

I have been meaning to talk about this for awhile... If you picked up my comic you might have noticed that one of the characters in it wears a Lost t-shirt. I am a huge fan of the Lost TV show. I know that a lot of people weren't always happy w/ it at times and many hated how it ended, but I personally think it's the greatest series ever! And today I am going to explain why I love it and why you should watch it if you haven't seen it and re-watch if you have already seen it! I feel like this show is so complex that I need to break it up in to several parts so please bare w/ me.

Before I can really dive into talking about why I love this show so much and why it effects me so deeply I think I need  to give a quick brush up for those who maybe have never seen it and for those who haven't seen since it ended. Lost basically starts w/ a bunch people crashing on an island. The first character we meet is a doctor named Jack who quickly emerges as the hero and leader of the passengers of flight 815. We quickly realize that they haven't landed on a normal deserted island and that strange things seem to be common place. We also learn that Lost isn't simply a show about castaways and adventure... we find that the people are all lost themselves from the first episode.

When Lost first premiered way back in 2004 it had one major problem for me... Smallville. I am a huge fan of comics so it was pretty much a no brainer that I would choose to watch show centered around them! The problem I ended up running into was that that I started to flip between the competing shows. If you haven't seen the first episode of Lost it is incredible! It set the stage for what we now know as "cinematic" TV! I watched more of the premiere of Lost than I did Smallville, but I still wasn't quite ready to give up my comic show... It wasn't until about the sixth episode that I fell in love with Lost and from that point on I was hooked!

One of the reasons I love this show so much is because it is almost impossible to put this into  any one genre... It's drama, it's comedy, it's adventure, it's mystery, it's horror, it even has elements of the western and sci-fi crammed in there. And above all else it's really about the characters and the fact that we as an audience can relate to them on an extremely personal level. (at least I do) Another reason this show is so great and ahead of it's time is the "time" narrative or flashing back in time. This was never really done to the degree that Lost did it on television. This tool of story telling helped the characters become real and honest people trying, like all of us, to find their path in this life or the next!

Lost raises a lot of questions that were always a big deal while it was airing... Things like... "What is the hatch?" to "Who are the Others?" to "What is the smoke monster?" and " What the hell is up w/ the four toed statue?" were all questions through out the show. BUT what everyone gets super hung up on is the answers, which we did get in most cases. People weren't always satisfied w/ the answers, but we did get them. Things like a four toed statue really don't even matter when it comes to what the show was really about (for me personally), which I will get to. In life there are about a million things we will leave this earth not knowing, this is a fact, and this is yet another reason this show is so easy to relate to! Life is frustrating and unfair, but it's also filled with interesting experiences and PEOPLE to connect with who help you realize your potential, both as an individual soul and as a collective part of the universe!

Going back to time... (if I skip around relax this blog is about Lost and it skips around)  a man made creation to let us know where we are in the universe. (and of course to turn us into hamsters on a wheel) Lost was all about jumping back, forward and sideways through time! I love this aspect of the show. They use time as away to zero in on individual characters, which again lets us get to know who they really are through their greatest mistakes and triumphs! A great example of the way time is used on Lost is with the character of Desmond Hume. When we first meet Desmond he's running the stairs in a football stadium training for a boat race around the world... "Ironically," he and our hero Jack cross paths and have one of those super deep conversations w/ a person you will probably never see again. (you know what I am talking about) I won't go into anything else other than that, Desmond eventually starts to have these visions of the future. He even starts to move forward, backward and sideways in time himself. As you watch the show you begin to see that time isn't linear for him it is happening all at once. This is a huge concept that is tough to think about, but begins to raise spiritual questions, which become very interesting later in the show.

Here's something about Lost that you need to understand going in or if you started to watching in a very shallow and half assed way... You must commit to it fully and you must have an open mind to different religions, people, concepts and cultural backgrounds. This is a show that will test your own belief systems and make that thing between your ears do that "thinky thing" that hurts sometimes. To be perfectly honest I am doing the best I can trying to explain why I love this show, but I don't think the real point of the show is to have one definitive answer to every concept of the show. I believe the main point is people growing and finding their way together if I were going to sum it up, but this show can mean so many things to different people. We have all loved and lost, we have all been in fights w/ the people we love, we have all done things we aren't proud of, we have all had our struggles w/ interpersonal relationships, and we all have our own private islands and crosses that we bare! And that is why you have to watch this show "open" and let it wash over you... and read about the concepts in the show because much of it is based around real science and philosophies!

God... To say I love the characters on Lost would be the greatest understatement I could ever make! I really do feel close to them, and not in a creepy way. I mean that their individual stories touched my heart personally, and each way their stories end is beautiful. One of my most favorite characters is John Locke... I won't give away his entire story, but it is sad, courageous and moving. He goes through so much and he never loses his personal faith and ability to believe in himself and others! His life is always filled w/ people telling him what he can't do or people just being mean to him, but he never loses his faith and above all else courage to stand up for what he believes in! These characters all have their own unique stories that we can identify with because at some point we have all been through something similar! Never the same, but similar! There is a Book by Brian Mcdonald called the Golden Theme, which is the idea that we are all the same. This is a concept that I think Lost knocks out of the park because it is impossible not to relate to the characters on the show. It is impossible not to empathize with them. (Unless you're a cyborg) Each character plays a major role with in the series, and that is why it is difficult to say there is a real lead character... Sure there is a Joseph Campbell type hero's journey archetype and the supporting characters, but each person in the story has there time to shine and be included in the larger story.

The end... I personally think that Lost was the greatest and most emotional ending ever filmed on television! I will try not to give anything away, but The ending of Lost is also very controversial. Many people have expressed displeasure as to how it ended... To these people I say watch the whole series over again. I say keep an open mind and don't expect every question to be answered. (I didn't) I say read about different types of religions, quantum mechanics and theories about time and time travel and alternative science! The four toed statue didn't really matter except to give the idea that the island is very old and that the world is never what it seems! The main point isn't the life or death struggle on the island it's about the people going through those struggles together... and again this is what it means to me... I think that is why the show is so great... you ask anyone what they think Lost is about and they will probably tell you something completely different. And that is a beautiful thing. I don't think Lost set out to answer and explain what everything means I think it just wanted to make people think and then give their own reflections and interpretations of possible outcomes. Okay I will stop! Just watch the show and tell me what you think!

On a personal note... Lost came out at a time in my life when I was doing a lot of growing up... I was working and going to college and ended up breaking up with a girl I dated for quite a while. Lost was there when I felt lost and it helped me feel like I wasn't alone. I took comfort in the fact that every Wednesday I could check in with Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley, Desmond, Charlie, John, Claire and Sayid... And I can't forget Ben either. Sun and Jin too!!! These characters and their stories gave me something to look forward to, week to week when I was simply just unhappy. They taught me lessons, I related to there mistakes and I was there when they won the day. Maybe it sounds weird to talk about characters that aren't "real" like this, but wasn't that something else Lost challenged... What it real? What is reality? AND Isn't art something that is supposed to move something inside you? Isn't art something that makes you think? I feel like Lost does both of those things and it has influenced the work I make, simply because I consider things that Lost did well and apply my own variations on some of those ideas and themes. I think about some of it's ideas about life, love and death when I write. Other things influence me as well obviously, but Lost and John Hughes make me think about  emotions, relationships and what does it all mean!

Okay! I feel like I didn't even scratch the surface, but this show is huge! I think that as time goes on Lost will only become more important in the world of television. It covers so much ground. It is impossible to sit here and try to sum it up. I just feel like I need to express my feelings about the show and what it means to me. And why it influences me. So there! Please as always let me know your thoughts and share your feelings about Lost and it's characters and so on! Thank you as always for reading!

Disturbing Films!

9/17/2014

As a fan of film, I enjoy many different genres, Horror being one of them... However, there are some films that are more disturbing than horrific, which is what inspired this weeks list. Some could and will definitely fall into the horror category, but to me they go beyond. I personally, have only seen many of these films once. For some reason I like to find weird films and watch them, and once I watch them I never want see them again... and honestly I believe once is enough... So take this list as a warning if you don't like disturbing films. BUT for those of you looking to watch something a step beyond your normal horror film during the quickly approaching Halloween Season, this is the list for you! (if you haven't seen them already... sickos) These as usual are not in order. Try to enjoy.

1.) The Human Centipede 2:  I actually watched this on Valentines day, which was the day it was released  straight to video, and man... why? I mean if you haven't seen the first film it is pretty disturbing, but it's more comical than anything. It had a wink to it... Anyway,  Part 2 is like most horror sequels completely over the top. How is it even possible to have a sequel to a film where 3 people are sewn together top to bottom? Look, I don't even know? But basically, there's a dude and he's a fan of the dude who made the Human Centipede in the first film and high jinks ensue. All I will say to warn you about this film is bigger Human Centipede and conducting poop! You're welcome.

2.) Audition: I have to say this... This movie is great. And it's great because it is actually scary, but wow it is disturbing and not even close to needing a re-watch! This a Japanese horror film, and it centers around a lonely widower who decides to hold these secret auditions for a new wife. He becomes interested in, of course, the absolute wrong girl and what follows it some of the most messed up imagery you could imagine! Torture, keeping people as deformed pets, and inappropriate sexual violence. You have been warned.

3.) Society: I don't know what it is about this film? I saw it in the 90's on Showtime or something when I was a teen, and it seriously freaked me out! It is about this kid from a "well to do" family who starts to notice strange happenings in his town... Like there is some sort of weird conspiracy. We see strange glimpses of rich people's body parts doing inhuman things, and eventually we find out why. I can't really say much more than that w/out giving too much away. The film is weird because it feels really creepy and earnest, but then seems like it's meant to be comical, but becomes nasty!? It's a weird film, man.

4.) Requiem for a Dream: God... Don't do drugs kids! In fact, parents show this movie to your kids, quick! I am not trying to say this is a bad film it's actually a very well executed piece of cinema, and I think that "disturbing" is the tone it's going for. It is about drugs and how they effect relationships and world perspective. I have always said that this film goes from a movie about the dangers of drugs to a full on horror film... And a disturbing one at that! It is a very "artsy" film as well, which just adds to the dirty and gross tone of it. We see sex for drugs, people completely changing into destroyed monsters and people losing limbs! I saw this movie w/ a girl I was dating back in like 2000, and I remember we couldn't even talk properly to each other and ended up in a weird fight after we saw it.  I have never watched it again, but remember all of it's unsettling glory!

5.) Dead Girl: This movie is super messed up for so many reasons... But mainly there is a dead girl that two teenage boys find( teenage boy's scary as hell)  and the girl turns out to be a zombie. Now imagine the moral questions that would arise in a horny teenage boy... Like messed up teenage boys that were raised wrong though. And then think about the fact that they have a naked girl zombie that they can use to say... get revenge on bullies among other sick delights? This movie is super hard to watch at times and not re-watchable, like at all. But the idea is definitely interesting and it does keep you interested in the way you rubber neck a car crash. Warned.

6.) Videodrome:  This film is cool, but has some really messed up imagery and content. It's focuses on this dude becoming obsessed w/ investigating this snuff type of television station? That's the only way I can really describe it? There is a bunch of scenes throughout the film that imply media and man becoming reliant on one another. Some of these images are super disturbing, like the one when a man's stomach becomes a flesh VCR that resembles a secret lady part. It's pretty hard to un-see this film.

7.) Last House on the Left(original) : I watched this film for the first time a few years back and it stuck w/ me. It is super brutal and involves violent rape scenes and extremely graphic murder and torture. Messed up! That's all I have to say about that.

8.) El Topo: This Movie is super cool looking... It was a Midnight movie from 1970. The midnight movies were like  Night of the Living Dead and Pink Flamingos.... Indie style movies that were too strange, sexual and violent to be released to the masses. El Topo is incredibly weird and disquieting. It involves a village of what could only be considered freaks, Brutal sex and violence, and it has a sort of strange spiritual tone, which makes it feel even more dirty. That's a good word for El Topo... You just don't feel clean while you watch it. It's a beautiful movie though... it almost has a Sergio Leone sort of look. It is just messed up.

9.) Fire in the Sky: What ever you believe or don't believe is irrelevant. Bottom line, the idea of Alien abduction is more than disturbing. And the way this concept is shown is both frightening and will cause you to lose sleep. It's true.

10.) Antichrist: Willem Dafoe is in it, which makes this film instantly disturbing. I can't even explain this film because I had no idea what the hell I was watching when I saw it. It has a lot of sex and violence that is super inappropriate... And when I say inappropriate I mean there are things that should never.... ever be associated w/ sex in this film. I feel sick ever thinking about one of the scenes in this movie! It literally is every mans worse nightmare and Willem Dafoe is literally probably the only actor on the planet who would act out a scene like it! Oh God NO! Don't even watch this movie man! It will ruin your life forever! It sucks you in too... Leave it alone man... Don't watch it!

So normally I would do an eleven, but recalling Antichrist just destroyed my brain! All I can say is that if you like disturbing things... Disturbing films... this is your list. There are a lot more out there I haven't seen and am working up the nerve to watch one day. just because sometimes you have to see something once and make your own call! Movies like Eraserhead and Cannibal Holocaust are supposed to me crazy messed up as well, but I have not yet seen these films so I can't comment. So if you have any disturbing film experiences you'd like to share please do. As always thanks for reading! Sweet Dreams!

Movies When You are Sick

9/10/2014

If you didn't guess I have been very ill this week. And I believe I am getting better... But I still don't feel very well to tell you the truth. Anyway, I thought I would share some movies that always seem to make me feel a little better when I am sick... Or at least take my mind off it for a little while. I haven't watched any of these this week... I just didn't feel like swapping out dvd's and decided to stick w/ netflix, which is much easier to manage and sick stomach. This is probably going to me shorter than usual as well, which I am sure will relieve all of you. So here goes...

1.) The Princess Bride: Maybe the perfect kid home sick movie it never fails to give you a couple of laughs and is filled action, adventure, drama and of course true love. It's start w/ a kid sick at home listening to his grandfather read him a story... see why its perfect. I instantly related to the kid whenever I was sick, and still do. This is really a great anytime movie and most people have seen it! It's highly re-watchable.

2.) Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom: I don't know if it's because we had this film on tape as a kid, but I remember watching this film over and over especially when I was sick. The funny thing is that we taped it off the tv and we missed the very beginning at the night club where Willie sings anything goes. I didn't even know that part existed for years! Anyway, I think for me it was Indy trying to help all these abused children that I always loved. He comes off as both heroic an kind and at one point Indy even gets "sick" and isn't himself. Great action to me is a must when you are couch ridden, and this movie is full of it! Great movie!

3.) Goonies: This is one of the best films about childhood and kids ever made, and to this day I watch it all the time. This film is like Indiana Jones for kids! It has action, adventure, comedy, and even a few scares here and there. I think the reason I always love this film when I am sick is mainly because Mikey is sick in the film! He, like me, had asthma and sometimes wasn't allowed to go out and play. He puff's on his inhaler throughout the film until he eventually realizes he doesn't need it anymore. For me as a kid that was all I could have wanted and eventually I didn't need my inhaler anymore either.

4.) Star Wars: I would watch the entire original trilogy almost every time I was home sick as a kid and I love them all pretty equally, but I have to focus on A New Hope or Episode 4. The reason I loved ANH so much as a sick kid is Luke. I have said this countless times over the years to people and even written about it on here... But when we meet Luke he is frustrated, confused and even sad. All he wants is to become a pilot and fight the empire. He stares off in the distance of a double sunset and is pained at being another day further from his dream. He isn't sick... He's stuck... Much like me on the couch not able to play out side or go to school, he had to stay on the farm and help his uncle and aunt, and it seemed like he'd never live his dream... live his life the way he wanted. Eventually, through tragedy he does escape into the life he wants, and his victory over the empire is even sweeter. And every time I played outside w/ my friends after being sick for a week I enjoyed it that much more!

5.) The NeverEnding Story: Like The Princess Bride a boy is transported to another place and is able to escape from his daily problems through the power of books and imagination! I loved to watch this when sick as a kid because there is a sadness to this film that feels almost the same as being sick. The world is being destroyed by 'the nothing' and for me both as a kid and an adult the thought of nothingness makes me feel a bit ill. The idea is so huge and overwhelming the think about. But the cool thing about this film is that we learn that we make our own story and that only our fears and doubts get in our way... And that if you want it bad enough you can have a Luck Dragon to scare your bullies, which is really the main theme :)

Well, normally I would do about 5 or 6 more, but like I said I am still trying to get better myself. Maybe I will pop one of these films in start to feel better. As always, if you have any films you like to watch when you are sick tell me about them. Take care and live your dreams.

Man's Gotta Do Movie Moments...

9/3/2014

Sometimes life throws you unwanted curve balls and you either take it... or swing. As you know I love movies... No matter what happens to you in your life a good movie can help you put things into perspective. And they are always there to help when you need them. Some of my favorite films are when people do something heroic when it would just be easier to give up and let life beat them down. So this week I want to write about Man's Gotta Do Movie Moments. These are those moments when a man has a decision to make that will forever change the outcome of his life, and no one can make it for him... because sometimes "a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do."

1.) Rocky: This film may be the ultimate "man's gotta do moment movie." An "every-man" is randomly selected to fight Apollo Creed the heavy weight champion of the world and what does he say when he's asked if he wants to do it? "No." He's scared... The idea of him, a nobody, being asked to throw hands w/ the greatest boxer in the world is too much. This is why he's the ultimate every-man... because every man has moments in his life where he questions himself and what he's capable of doing... every man has fear in his heart that he has to learn to control and overcome. Life is hard and sometimes your first reaction is "No" or "I Can't" but when you sit, reflect and realize... "why the hell can't I?" Rocky like every man sat up awake the night before his fight and he told Adrian that he just wanted to go the distance w/ Creed because no one else ever had before. That is a choice... Win or lose he wasn't going down... That's why even though the fight score said he lost... he really won and in turn made the Apollo, the boxing champion of the world, question himself!

2.) Goodwill Hunting: The story about a kid w/ a big brain that everyone wants a piece of, but inside his heart lives a tortured soul. He is court ordered to go to counseling for his anger and repeated criminal activity. Along the way he starts dating a girl... but he pushes her away when he starts to love her... Like he pushes everyone away. Through the help of his counselor we find out that it's because of the great trauma's he has experienced throughout his short life. Somewhere a long the line he decided that when things didn't work out it was because of him... that there was something wrong w/ him... And he was afraid that he would ruin anyone he got to.Will eventually accepts that he needs to live his life w/ out fear and be vulnerable, and as the movie ends he's decided to take a chance on love, driving to California to start a life w/ the girl of his dreams, and the one he previously pushed away. This takes great courage... to first admit that he has a problem, then let down his guard and then face his greatest fear... letting someone in his world and trust them to accept him. Can you imagine how long that drive to California must have been? How many times he probably wanted to turn back? He did what he knew he had to in order to become a better man! Men do that every day and so do women!!!

3.) Kill Bill Vol. 2: Tarantino films are full of "man's gotta do moments" but these moments of course apply to women, as well! Beatrix Kiddo gets shot in the head and left for dead by the man she used to love. She was w/ child at the time and lay is a comma fours after she was shot. When she wakes up she has a choice to make... Go into hiding or go after Bill and the rest and have her revenge. She goes through a lot during two films, but there is one moment that really stands out for me as over coming and doing what you have to do, no matter what! She goes after Bud, Bill's brother, who is ready for her and unloads a shot gun full of rock salt into her chest, stopping her before she can start! And he doesn't stop there... he then takes he to a cemetery and buries her alive. So what the hell does she do? Well she cries, screams and thrashes until she does what I am sure Police officers and soldiers do in crisis, she remembers her training and she punches he way out of he own grave! Sure this is over the top and it is probably impossible, but that's really the point isn't? It's just hard getting up some days, but we all do it because we have to, no matter what life throws us or how hard something is going to be! You have to keep trying and you can't give up!!! When you feel like you are buried and at an end... punch yourself, the hell, out of that grave!!!

4.) True Romance: Again, "Man's Gotta Do" Moments aren't just for men... In this case, Alabama played by, the lovely Patricia Arquette (who my brother once grabbed drunk on the street, at the the Sundance Film Festival... He is a sick, sick man) is beaten within an inch of her life by a young pre- Tony Soprano, James Gandolfini, who is looking for a large amount of stolen cocaine. Alabama makes the choice to not give up the location of the drugs even though she is brutally punched, kicked and beaten badly... This is an ultimate "Mans gotta Do" moment because in her mind that was her man's cocaine... he went through hell to get it, and he wanted to use it to make a life for them! She refuses to betray her one true love! That to me is more manly than any man! Loyalty, trust and honor are all very important to being a man, and she displays all of these traits in this time of crisis! And guess what... after getting beaten to hell she does something even more bad ass, over coming pain and certain death, she killing her would be assassin, keeping Clarence and Alabama's dream of a new life together in tact! He went through hell to give them a shot at happiness and she Killed the Devil to live it!!!

5.) Star Wars : A New Hope : Have you ever wondered what would have happened if Han hadn't come back to help Luke get a clear shot at the death star? I mean, would Luke have been able to take the shot before Vader shot him? Why was Han even there anyway? I will tell you why... Sometimes what a mans gotta do is have another mans back! Call it being a wing man or a loyal friend or whatever else you want, but Han had his money and was done w/ the whole situation. He should have made the jump to Hyperspace and been gone, but he knew leaving his buddy wasn't right... he and Chewy were flying the Falcon, looked at each other and said Luke would never turn his back on us, and we sure as hell aren't going to on him! The result... No more death star 1, Luke and Han get medals and Chewy yells, "hey, where the hell's my medal, damn?"

6.) Mission Impossible: 3: What? I mean sure this is a bad ass movie and there's manly stuff, but seriously this movie? The late, great Phillip Seymour Hoffman plays Owen Davian the main villain of the film and he is incredibly good... in my opinion one of the best villains ever! Anyway, he has one of the greatest "man's gotta do" moments ever... Call it no fear, call it plain old fashion stubbornness, but when Davian is being interrogated on the and plane says this while he's in custody...Owen Davian: "Who are you? What's you're name? Do you have a wife? A girlfriend? Because if you do, I'm gonna find her. I'm gonna hurt her. I'm gonna make her bleed, and cry, and call out your name. And then I'm gonna find you,and kill you right in front of her"....  we all sit up and say damn that's some cold shit! Now the reason this is on here is because you don't always have to be a good guy to be a man... and men should do/say things and mean it! And when Davian says this we know he means it, and so does Ethan Hunt! If a man makes a promise, a commitment or a threat... He better mean it, and he better follow through. Davian did what he said he was going to do by the way... He may have died in the process, but he was going to keep his word to the end!

7.) Jaws: Chief Brody is respected in the small town of Amity. He has a family, friends and a fairly quiet job over seeing and keeping beach goers/tourists safe. Ironically, he is scared to death of the water... but when a giant shark comes to town and starts eating people on four of July weekend, he does what all men have to do at some point in their life... he faces his fear and does his freaking job!!! By the end of the film he is literally over coming his fear as his sinks into the water and kills his shark nemesis. Some dudes are scared of spiders, some are scared of looking stupid, and some are scared of heights... the bottom line is that in order to be a man sometimes you have to do and over come the things you are afraid of doing! The last line of Jaws Brody says: "You know I used to hate the water." He over came his fear! We all can!

8.) Back to the Future: There's one thing all men have to do at some point in there life and that is to take a stand! Biff is a real "butthead" and the whole movie he pushes people around... the main person receiving his abuse is Marty Mcfly's father George... We see Biff pick on him in the present day and in the past. One on the best parts of this film is, of course, is when George knocks Biff out by the car winning his loves hand... But to me that toughest part was when George says," No Biff... You leave her alone." To me that is all heart and courage. It's hard to stand up to anyone period, but sometimes just being able to get the words out is half the battle. When George said those words, he was already committed to standing up for what was right until! He took a stand and drew a line in the sand! That is an incredible "Man's gotta do" moment!

9.) The Karate Kid: This whole movie is full of great moments in general... But the "Man's Gotta Do" Moment for me is when Daniel chooses to fight at the end of the movie. The key word is chooses! He has beaten up all the dudes in the tournament and damn near all of the Cobra Kai... what else did he really have to prove after they all but break his leg? Well, he had to show that no matter what those guys do to him, he was going to keep coming back for more! By going back out on a bad leg he said "here's my heart and it will always be bigger than yours." Courage, Fearlessness, Loyalty, Determination... these all start in the heart of a man... Daniel beat his bully's and earned their respect by showing the most pure and raw part of any man, his heart!

10.) Open Range: If you haven't seen this film it is one of the best westerns to be released in years... probably the best since Unforgiven as far and modern revisionist westerns go. Anyway, Charlie Waite, played by Kevin Costner, is a quiet man w/ a past. He is over all easy going and when he says something he means it... So when he comes back to his camp and finds, one friend dead, one almost dead you can see he gets pissed... But it isn't until he finds that they killed his dog that we know he's is going to war w/ the men who did it. If you hurt a man's family or his dog... You better believe that Man has to come after you. Sometimes "a man's gotta" set things right and that's exactly what Charlie does by the end of Open Range!

11.) Goonies: It's a movie about kids right? Wrong! This is a movie about boys becoming men. They as a group make a choice to save the "goon docks" from becoming a golf course and losing their homes! But the main message of what a man's gotta do is summed up when Mikey tells Andy that Goonies "never say die!" A man never gives up! He never says that there isn't a way out... he fights and keeps moving forward until there isn't a breath in his body! And he never gives up on a dream! And they found their "rich stuff" and they saved the day!!!

12.) Cool Hand Luke: I am not even going to explain why this is on here! If you have seen it then you know! If you haven't then you need to! Damn near the whole movie is "Man's Gotta Do" moments! watch it!

So that's my Man's Gotta Do Movie Moments! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed writing it:) There are about a billion other films that could be on here, so if I missed one you love, tell me about it! This list might seem a little over the top or even hokey, you may even think it's lame that I even wrote it... BUT SOMETIMES A MAN'S GOTTA DO WHAT A MAN'S GOTTA DO!
